Deputy in fatal Harford police shooting identified

The Harford County Sheriff's Office has identified the officer involved in Saturday's fatal shooting as Deputy David Feeney, 43, a two-year member of the agency's patrol division.

Feeney was investigating a report of a break-in at a snowball stand near Bel Air when he shot Seth Jacob Beckman, 19, of Bel Air, whom police have since identified as the suspect in the break-in. Beckman later died at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

According to a Sheriff's Office news release, Feeney began his career with the Sheriff's Office in January 2011 as a corrections officer. He transferred to law enforcement in June of 2012 and most recently has been assigned as a patrol deputy out of the Northern Precinct.

Feeney has been placed on administrative leave while an investigation of the shooting continues.

Sheriff's Office detectives still have additional witnesses to interview and store security camera footage obtained from local area businesses to review, according to the news release.

Detectives are asking anyone in the area of Route 24 and Red Pump Road in Bel Air Saturday evening who may have witnessed the incident, or who has any information, to call Detective Joseph Peters at 410-836-5014.
