Howloween Bash benefits Harford's pets in need

Eat, drink and be scary on Friday, Nov. 1 at Jarrettsville Gardens from 7 to 11 p.m. to benefit No Kill Harford (NKH), a non-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to making Harford County one of the safest places in the country for companion animals and feral cats. The event is being held to raise awareness for NKH's mission and funds for veterinary care for rescued animals and future programs.

"This has been an amazing year of growth for No Kill Harford. With the help of our supporters and volunteers, we have rescued 240 cats, 36 dogs, donated over 1,000 pounds of pet food to needy families and animal fosters, and funded over 600 spay/neuters. Just as it takes a community to raise a child, we believe it takes a community to save an animal," founder and executive director Adam Wysocki said.

Rather than focus on easily adoptable animals, the organization rescues and rehabilitates animals in immediate danger of being euthanized and sometimes those with challenging medical or behavioral problems. NKH also provides positive alternatives to pet surrender by empowering owners with education, resources and referrals.

"We plan to launch additional pet saving programs over the next year, so fundraising is key right now," cofounder and director Kelly Furgason said. The organization's programs are funded entirely by public donations.

Join NKH on Nov. 1 and participate in costume contests with celebrity judge, Harford County radio and TV personality Tracy Hart and other mystery guests (family friendly costumes, please). Contest categories include most creative, best couple and funniest. Prizes include cash, gift certificates to local businesses and more.

Headliner silent auction items include a Ravens Legends commemorative plaque (pictured) along with other sports memorabilia, and a seven-night all inclusive hotel stay in St. Lucia. Other auction items include pet, spa and golf baskets, a basket of cheer, jewelry and many other unique items. Additional event happenings include a liquor wheel, a 50/50 raffle and a No Kill Harford timeline exhibit.

The ticket price is $40 per person or $400 for a table of 10 with reserved seating. Price includes buffet dinner, dessert, soft drinks, coffee, beer and wine. Music by DJ Russ from Event Pro Live. To purchase tickets online, visit http://www.missiontix.com/howloweenbash or contact Kaitlyn Thomas at kaitlyn@nokillharford.org. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.

Besides rescuing Harford County animals and providing low/no cost spay and neuter to Harford residents, No Kill Harford is an advocate for shelter reform. To learn more about No Kill Harford or to make a lifesaving donation, visit http://www.nokillharford.org.
