A. Joyce Jackson joins Harford Community College Board of Trustees

The newest member of the Harford Community College says she has a long-standing interest in Education.A. Joyce Jackson was sworn in as a trustee on Sept. 9 and attended her first board meeting on Sept. 13. She was appointed by Gov. Larry Hogan upon the recommendation of County Executive Barry Glassman.&quot;I've always been interested in education,&quot; Jackson, who has three adult children and previously served as the president of the Edgewood High School PTSA, said following her first HCC board meeting.&quot;I thought it would be a great opportunity to give back to the academic world and help serve the community and the college,&quot; she said.An Abingdon resident, Jackson replaced eight-year trustee Doris Carey in the County Council District A board seat which covers parts of Abingdon, Edgewood and Joppa.Jackson holds a business management degree from Camden County College in New Jersey and a Master of Human Services degree from Lincoln University in Pennsylvania.She is a graduate of the Harford County Leadership Academy and is a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager. She has previously held certifications as a certified housing counselor, a certified housing educator and a licensed real estate agent.Jackson has more than 20 years of state and federal government regulatory experience in the consumer credit and mortgage lending industries.She is currently serving in an appointed federal position as an enterprise risk management specialist with the Office of the Comptroller of Currency in Washington, D.C. Her prior professional experience includes serving as a compliance analyst with the FDIC, a compliance officer with Citigroup, and supervisor of the Financial Examination Unit with the State of Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Division of Financial Regulation.Jackson also has served on numerous volunteer boards in the community, including Open Doors and Edgewood High School Academy of Finance.Her other volunteer positions include serving as a former president and current member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., XI Delta Omega Chapter of Harford County, an organization committed to serving communities in Harford and Cecil counties for more than 34 years. She was the former chair and is a current member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority's Scholarship Committee, which has awarded more than $94,000 to Harford and Cecil county students.Jackson was the former director and founder of the Financial Literacy Program, a community outreach ministry of Rooted Bible Fellowship Church. The program was the first financial educational program in Harford County, designed to assist low-income homebuyers overcome barriers to homeownership, according to an HCC new release announcing her appointment. The program focused on assisting low-income first-time homebuyers with overcoming obstacles in purchasing a home.
