The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the burning of a car that had been reported stolen in Baltimore and was found in flames along the 2500 block of Belair Road in Fallston early Saturday morning.
The fire started in the passenger compartment of the Buick LaCrosse CX, and it caused an estimated $6,500 in damage to the vehicle and the contents, according to a notice of investigation issued by the Fire Marshal's Office Monday.
"The area of origin is the passenger compartment, but the point of origin has not been determined, as well as the cause," Senior Deputy Fire Marshal Oliver Alkire said Tuesday.
Alkire said the car's owner reported to the Baltimore Police Department that the vehicle had been stolen.
The fire was reported shortly after 1:15 a.m. Saturday by a person passing by the burning car, according to the report.
Eight firefighters with the Fallston Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Company responded and brought the fire under control in about 15 minutes. No injuries were reported.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fire Marshal's Office in Bel Air at 410-836-4844.
