A school bus driver was sent to hospital Tuesday morning with minor injuries following accident in Emmorton, officials from the Harford County Sheriff's Office said.
A contracted Harford County Public Schools bus and a 2013 Mercedes SUV were involved in a crash around 8:50 a.m. on Route 924 and Ring Factory Road, Edward Hopkins, spokesperson for Sheriff's Office, said.
According to Hopkins, the Mercedes, driven by Gina E. Gladis, 46, of Bel Air, was traveling south on Route 924 and stopped behind a school bus, driven by Patricia Flynn, 56, stopped at a traffic light.
The driver of the SUV thought the bus was moving and began to accelerate, rear-ending the school bus, Hopkins said.
The bus driver was taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center suffering from "very minor" injuries, Hopkins said.
HCPS spokesperson Jillian Lader said the bus driver was returning from a morning run at the time of the crash and no children were on the bus. She said emergency personnel were called to the scene to ensure the safety of all those involved.
