C. Milton Wright junior David Bishop put his team into the region championship with an overtime goal Friday to lift the Mustangs past host Bel Air, 2-1, in the Class 3A North Section II final.
The Mustangs (13-2-2) were to host Westminster Tuesday for the region championship.
"I saw the ball coming in and I got out of the way, then it bounced off the keeper and I was just right there. I had nothing to do but put it in," Bishop said in describing his big moment which came with 4:58 left in the first overtime period.
Coincidentally, it was Bishop who scored the winning goal in last year's playoff game between the two schools.
"It's a big game against Bel Air, we love playing them. Definitely the biggest goal of my life," Bishop said.
The game was sent to overtime after both teams scored goals in the second half.
CMW scored first, with Corey Alt scoring unassisted at the 19:25 mark. He hit a shot from the right, about 15 yards out, toward the far post; it was just out of the reach of diving Bel Air goalie Garrett Lorenz.
Bel Air (11-3-1) answered five minutes later on a corner kick. Alex Munley sent the ball across, where sweeper back Evan Reinhardt one-timed it into net.
Lorenz finished with four saves for Bel Air, while Ryan Miller made nine saves for CMW.
