Fallston's state title run in boys lacrosse comes to an end

Fallston's run toward a fourth straight Maryland Class 1A-2A boys lacrosse state championship ended Wednesday night.

The Cougars (14-3) were edged by host Southern-A.A., 9-8, in overtime of their 1A-2A South Region title game. It was an overtime win Monday over Havre de Grace that put the Cougars into Wednesday night's final.

Fallston's scoring was led by Ben Claffee's two goals. Kyle McKeever, Sam Gold, Dylan Wolf, Garrett Krug, Nick Esser and Andy Stump had one goal each.

Southern had two goals apiece from Troy Smith, Marshall Johnson, Kyle Mills and Shane McKenzie. Tyler Nation added a single goal.

Matt Wollenweber had two assists for Fallston and Claffee had one. Smith added two assists for Southern.

Fallston goalie Liam Wilcox finished with 13 saves and Southern keeper Morgan Foster had 10 saves. The Cougars had a 5-4 halftime lead.
