Fallston survives HdG in tight boys lacrosse game

The Fallston Cougars boys lacrosse team had its hands full at Havre de Grace Wednesday night in a key UCBAC Chesapeake Division game.

The upset-minded Warriors (3-2 league, 11-2 overall) led at the half and again through three quarters, but Fallston (5-0, 11-2) led late and that's what mattered in the Cougars 10-8 win.

Dylan Wolf (four goals) gave the Cougars the lead four minutes into the first quarter. Havre de Grace, though, had goals from Casey Brown and Colin Dean, 16 seconds apart, to go up, 2-1. Nick Esser and Kyle McKeever added goals for Fallston and Nick Burley scored one for Havre de Grace to send the game to quarter two tied at 3.

Chris Parrott and Brett Wilson scored back-to-back goals nearly five minutes apart to give the Warriors their biggest lead, 5-3, and with just 47 seconds left in the half. Fallston, taking advantage of a Havre de Grace turnover, scored with 8 seconds left to end the half. Matt Wollenweber did the honors with assist from Justin Williams.

Wolf tied the game at 5, just 56 seconds into the third quarter, but Kyle Barkley answered for the Warriors soon after to put his team back up, 6-5. Garrett Krug retied it with 3:45 left in the quarter and Havre de Grace went back up on Dean's second goal with 3:12 to play in the quarter.

Leading 7-6 with one quarter to play, the Warriors went cold. Williams tied the game again, 7-7, and with 6:10 left in the game, Wolf put the Cougars ahead for good with goal number three.

Williams and Wolf both scored again in the final five minutes, while three straight Havre de Grace possessions during that same time span ended without a shot on goal.

Burley's second goal ended the scoring with 7 seconds left.

Fallston assists were credited to Ben Claffee (two), Williams, Krug and Andy Stump.

Brown had four assists for Havre de Grace. Wilson, Dean (two) and Barkley also had assists.

Cougars goalie Liam Wilcox made 13 saves and Warriors keeper Jacob Laubner finished with nine.

Bobcats beat Indians

Bel Air (4-1, 9-3) had no trouble at North East, winning 20-10, in Chesapeake play.

Tom Pfeiffer led the Bobcats with three goals, while Garrett Utz, Brad Casale, Dave Lotz, Kasey Davenport, Jason Dinsmore, Justin Calabrese and Carter Hoffman each had two goals.

Bobcats goalie Gavin Hanley had seven saves.

Cobras beat Mariners

Harford Tech (5-0, 8-5) traveled to Joppatowne (2-4, 3-6) Wednesday night and left with a 17-7 Susquehanna Division win.

Steven Mills had a big night with five goals and two assists and Nick Letts added four goals and three assists. Griffin Pfarr also scored three goals and added one assist. Brett Grube dished out five assists and scored one goal and Sid Shive scored two goals. Justin Steen had a goal and two assists and Marcos Ramos added one goal.

The Tech defense denied Joppatowne repeatedly, building a 12-3 halftime lead.The Cobras will meet Perryville Friday afternoon to finish the weather suspended game started April 20. The game was tied at 7 in the second half.

Mustangs beat Huskies

C. Milton Wright (3-2, 9-5) won at Patterson Mill (0-6, 6-8), 16-6 in Chesapeake play. The Mustangs led 10-4 at the half.

CMW scoring was led by Cade Dail's three goals.

Patterson Mill's Rylee Borrink and Blake Tallon led Patterson Mill with two goals each.

CMW goalie Philip Venanzi made two saves and Huskies goalie Will DeVinney had 18.

Eagles fall on road

Aberdeen (2-4, 2-8) lost at Rising Sun, 8-3, Wednesday in Susquehanna Division play.

Kyle Sampson had two goals and an assist and Ethan Mauzy had the other goal. Matt Merchant added an assist.

Goalie Luke Whittie posted 21 saves.

Other score

North Harford (7-6) lost to visiting Hereford, 6-1, in non-league play.
