Havre de Grace, Harford Tech boys take Cecil basketball tourney titles

The Havre de Grace and Harford Tech boys basketball teams had successful holiday breaks with each winning a division of Green-N-Gold Holiday Tournament at Cecil College in North East. Other Harford County teams were also in holiday tournaments over the past week.

In the Cecil tournament, Havre de Grace won the Gold Division and Tech won the Green Division, though Tech's was the more improbable victory.

Harford Tech, charitably speaking, had a horrible first half start to the two-day event last Friday and Saturday. Tech trailed Perryville, 33-10, at the half. Almost unbelievably, Tech rallied feverishly in the second half to win, 60-58. Darius Dangerfield had 22 points, eight steals and five assists for Tech. Fred Gordon scored 15 and grabbed eight rebounds. Freshman guard Dashawn Lucas scored 10.

The next day, Tech beat Bo Manor, 62-57, for the championship. Gordon scored 23 and had seven rebounds. Dangerfield had 13 points, five steals and 10 assists.

Dangerfield was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player and Gordon was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Havre de Grace boys basketball team likewise had a successful holiday break.

In addition to getting time off to spend with family and friends, the Warriors also spent two days winning the Gold Bracket of the 18th annual Green-N-Gold tournament.

Havre de Grace beat North East last Friday in the semifinals, 59-79. The Warriors then beat Patterson Mill, 50-40, Saturday to win the championship.

Krs Yancey led Havre de Grace both days. He scored 18 points against North East and 22 points against Patterson Mill. His performance earned him the tournament's Most Outstanding Player Award.

Jordan Hawthorne scored 14 and Josh Penn had 12 against North East. Against Patterson Mill, Zayrron Blake had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

In addition to Yancey's award, Havre de Grace also had Hawthorne earn one of the five spots on the All-Tournament Team.

In other Harford County boys basketball games played this week, C. Milton Wright beat Archbishop Curley Monday, 61-52, after leading at the half, 22-21.

Mychal Stefanides led CMW with 17 points. Dante Brown scored 14, Corey Bays had nine and Will Hazelton had seven. Bays led CMW's rebounders with eight. Hazelton had six steals. Hazelton and Stefanides each had five assists.

Edgewood beat Carver Monday, 59-38, setting up a showdown that was to be played at 7 p.m. Tuesday against either Chesapeake-A.A. or High Point.

Sophomore Rocceon Harrison scored 16 points and had eight steals and six assists. Junior Tyrone McKisset and Senior Immanuel Gladden-Stokes each scored nine.
