The new year didn't bring any luck to the boys basketball teams at Aberdeen and Bel Air.
Both were in action Monday and both were beaten. Aberdeen (6-4) lost at Western Tech, 43-40, while Bel Air (3-5) dropped a 65-55 contest to visiting Perry Hall. The Bobcats were beaten, 60-56, by Perry Hall on Dec. 26. Stats for Bel Air were not reported.
In Aberdeen's loss, Jaleel Gibson scored 18 points to lead the Eagles and Jayden Saddler added 13. Aberdeen and Western Tech each missed 10 foul shots.
HCS places second
Harford Christian split a pair of tournament games at the Habitat for Humanity Hoops Tournament in Baltimore.
The Eagles opened play against the host Park School Friday and won, 80-54.
HCS jumped on the Bruins from the start, led by Moe Epps, who exploded for 34 points, eight steals and seven assists. Sean Hughes was nearly as impressive with 28 points, nine boards and seven steals. Rashawd Clowney chipped in with 16 points, nine rebounds and five steals.
HCS (9-3) lost the title game to Archbishop Curley, 78-58.
HCS struggled to rebound and gave up 28 points from the free throw line. The Eagles made a late push in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to seven, but could not sustain the energy to cut the lead further.
Hughes led the way with 24 points, eights rebounds, five steals and four assists. Epps added 16 points, seven assists and five steals. Paul Franco finished with 10 points, four rebounds and three steals.
Hughes was named to the All-Tournament Team for his performance over the weekend, averaging 26 points, 8.5 rebounds, six steals and 3.5 assists in the two games.
