A week celebrating all things beer-related is returning to Bel Air for its second year starting Friday.Shane McCarthy, of Ronnie's Beverage Warehouse, has been busy organizing the second annual Bel Air Beer Week, which will run through Aug. 14.The celebration is actually nine days, longer than a week, and there's an inaugural event to kick everything off planned for Wednesday at Bel Air's Independent Brewing Company starting at 6 p.m..That event, titled "With a Little Hops From My Friends," features "a sampling of a special brew" made with 15 varieties of hops contributed from 13 breweries around the country and a hops additions from various community members, including Harford County Executive Barry Glassman. Everyone is invited to "come out to taste what we came up with," according to a Facebook event posting, that also notes live music in tribute to The Beatles with be featured.This year's Beer Week includes sponsors and events throughout the county and is being supported by Glassman's office and the Bel Air Downtown Alliance."I think definitely with the support of Independent Brewing, Ronnie's [Beverage Warehouse], Looney's [Pub in Bel Air], Route 24 Ale House [in Bel Air], a lot of our sponsors, we are definitely expecting a lot more people to get involved," McCarthy said Tuesday from Independent Brewing, on Main Street, where he was helping label all the bottles for Beer Week.Independent Brewing on Main Street has been "doing wonders" for the craft beer scene in Harford County, McCarthy said, and it has been a "unique venue" for all kinds of events since opening late last year.More traditional pubs like Looney's and MaGerk's are getting in on the act, and Route 24 Ale House marks a transformation from the former Bel Air Billiards, on Bel Air South Parkway.MaGerk's is hosting a Craft Beer Festival from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Ronnie's will hold a Port City Brewing Company Pizza Party from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and various tastings and tap takeovers will highlight businesses like Liquor Stop.Beer Week also will coincide with Bel Air's First Friday celebration this week, which the Downtown Alliance calls "Harford County's best block party."More information is available at http://belairmaryland.org/bel-air-beer-week, or Bel Air Beer Week on Facebook and Twitter.
