North Harford, CMW baseball teams advance in playoffs with Monday wins

Harford County baseball teams went 2-2 in Monday's section semifinal round of their regions. North Harford and C. Milton Wright were winners, while Fallston and Havre de Grace were both shut out.

Patterson Mill will play at Elkton on Tuesday in Class 2A East Section I at 3:30 p.m. after their Monday game was postponed because of the afternoon rain.

Hawks beat Bobcats

North Harford (13-6) picked up its win at home, beating Bel Air (10-9), 9-7, in 3A North Section II play.

Hawks senior Sean Bowling got the win, with senior Scott Angstadt recording the save. Bowling also had two hits and two RBIs to aid his cause. Senior Luke Johnson had a single, double, home run and 2 RBIs and senior Nick Ford had three singles.

The Hawks will host C. Milton Wright (8-11) in Wednesday's section final at 4 p.m.

The Mustangs reached the final with a 14-4 win over visiting Patapsco on Monday.

Cougars, Warriors ousted

Fallston (11-8) was shut out in Rising Sun, 4-0, in 2A East Section I play. Havre de Grace (8-12) was not only shut out, but no-hit in its 10-0 loss in the 1A East Section II at Colonel Richardson. The game was stopped in the sixth.

In the loss, Chris Thompson started on the hill, lasting three and two-third innings. He allowed six runs. Connor Donaldson gave up four runs in an inning and a third and Mike Flosser pitched a third of an inning.

Huskies beat Cobras

Jeff Noss pitched a complete game as Patterson Mill (12-7) beat visiting Harford Tech (6-10), 9-3, Friday in Class 2A East Section I.

The Huskies scored in all six bats to chase Tech starting and losing pitcher Justin Smith after four and two-third innings.

Noss gave up 10 hits, two walks and three earned runs, while striking out five. Smith yielded nine hits and four walks, while striking out six.

Billy Benson led the Huskies at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Noss helped his own cause, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Matt Sprouse added two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored and Kyle Goudy added one hit, two walks, two stolen bases and three runs.

Smith (triple) and Blake Godwin both went 3-for-3 for Tech. AJ Borg was 1-for-4 with a triple and Brandon Mitchell was 1-for-3 with a double.

Cougars edge Indians

Fallston (11-7) defeated visiting North East, 4-3, in a tightly contested 2A East Section I game Friday.

The Cougars jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a run in each of the first and second innings.North East, however, capitalized on a defensive miscue by Fallston in the third to scorethree times and take a 3-2 lead.

Jared Perry and Jake Brelesky each had RBI singles for the Cougars in the bottom of the sixth to put the Cougars back on top, 4-3.

North East got a walk and a double to lead off the seventh and force Fallston starterHarrison Schumaker from the mound. Scott Dettloff entered the game with no outs and runners on second and third. Dettloff got a fly out to shallow left for the first out of the inning, before walking the next batter to load the bases.

Dettloff escaped further trouble and sealed the win, getting the next North East hitter to roll into a game-ending, 6-4-3 double play.

Schumaker went six strong innings, scattering six hits and walking one, while striking out four to collect the victory. Dettloff earned the save, his first of the year.

Perry finished 3-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base to pace the Fallston offense.Mac Nelson and Collin Gay also had two hits apiece for the Cougars.

Warriors edge Trojans

Havre de Grace (8-11) advanced in 1A East Section II play with an 3-2 win Friday over host Kent County.

Christian Amici hurled a four-hit complete game, striking out 11 to put the Warriors in the win column.

Mike Flosser was 2-for-2 at the plate, with a pair of walks, two runs scored and three stolen bases. Connor Donaldson drove in the eventual winning run in the sixth.

Tommy Murtaugh added a hit and two RBIs for the Warriors.

Bobcats pound Rams

Bel Air (10-8) had no trouble in 3A North Section II action, beating visiting Edgewood (8-10), 16-1, in five innings Friday.

Luke Beyers pitched all five innings for the Bobcats, allowingtwo hits and walk, while striking out five on 51 pitches.

The Bobcatsroughed up Edgewood starter Dennis Stepp, who threw 111 pitches over four and two-third innings. He allowed 16 runs on 13 hits.

Bel Air was led by Jackson Struve, 3-for-3 with three RBIs;Liam Bowers, 2-for-3, two doubles, four RBIs; J.D. Bruck, 2-for-4, two-run home run, four RBIs and Michael Koski, 2-for-2, double and two RBIs.

Edgewood's two hits were singles by Nick Logue and Jordan Holsopple.

Eagles upset

Aberdeen, the number two seed in 3A North Section II, was upset by visiting Patapsco, 3-2, Friday. It was just Patapsco's (2-15) second win of the season.

Tied in the sixth, 2-2, Patapsco's Gavin Jarvis hit a one-out double. The line drive to left field took an unusual very high hop over Aberdeen left fielder Dylan Morris' head. Jarvis was then wild pitched to third with Xavier Thomas at bat. Thomas fouled off a number of pitches, before hitting a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Jarvis.

Aberdeen (13-6) had the tying run at second with two away in bottom of the sixth, but a strikeout ended the threat.

In the seventh, Aberdeen's Andrew Brndjar reached on an error with one out. Owen Smith followed with a single down the left field line to put runners at first and second. Sam Smith flew out to right for the second out without any advancement by the runners. Ryan Acree then hit a solid line drive to left, but right at the Patriots fielder who grabbed it to end the game.

Both teams scored two runs in the first. Robert Lloyd doubled in the Patriots runs, while Anthony Cuellar and Brndjar both singled and scored on en error.

Jarvis pitched the complete game for the win, allowing six hits, while striking out two. Zach Thomas pitched the first six innings in taking the loss. He allowed four hits and struck out four.

Other scores

In 3A North Section II, C. Milton Wright (7-11) won at Dundalk, 11-1, Friday.

In 1A East Section II, Joppatowne (0-14) was beaten, 12-2, at St. Michael's.
