North Harford takes down CMW 9-3 in Wednesday baseball contest

North Harford won its second straight Chesapeake (upper) Division baseball victory over a tough opponent Wednesday as the Hawks topped host C. Milton Wright, 9-3.

The previous day, North Harford beat Bel Air, 7-3.


With the victory, North Harford improved to 7-0 for the year, and 6-0 in upper division play. CMW fell to 3-5 overall, and 3-3 against Chesapeake opponents.

North Harford's Nic Hammer led his team at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a triple, a double and four RBIs. Richie Greene was 1-for-5 with a double, two runs and three RBIs, while teammate Austin Bartenfelder went 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Richie Van Nordeck scored twice for the Hawks, and Scott Angstadt was 1-for-2 with one run in the victory. The Hawks Luke Johnson was 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.


CMW's Colin Miller, the lone Mustang with multiple hits, went 2-for-2 with one run, and Mike Nolte was 1-for-2 with a double and one RBI. Chase DeMars and Brett Schatz each scored one run for CMW.

Hammer started for the Hawks and went 4-2/3 innings, striking out five, walking six and allowing three earned runs on three hits to earn the win.

HdG defeats Elkton

Havre de Grace started fast Wednesday, scoring five times in the first inning during their 9-5 win over visiting Elkton.

The win put the Warriors at 6-1 overall, and 6-0 in Susquehanna (lower) Division play.

Chris Thompson had Havre de Grace's hot bat, as he went 2-for-3 with a team-leading three RBIs, while Christian Amici was 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Corey Thompson cranked out a double and scored twice, while Luis Nieves-Gonzalez went 2-for-2 with two runs. Dominick Bolen was 1-for-3 with a double, one run and one RBI, and Kyle Greskoff also had one RBI in the win. Eddie Hofer drove in one run for the Warriors, while Cameron Standiford and Tommy Murtaugh both scored once.

Chris Thompson was credited with the win, as he struck out four, walked seven and held Elkton to one earned run on one hit over four innings.

Patterson Mill takes win


The Patterson Mill Huskies (3-4 overall, 2-3 Chesapeake) managed just three hits in their home contest with North East on Wednesday, but still came out on top, 6-1.

Huskies' hurler Robert Besante went the distance, striking out five, issuing one walk and allowing one earned run on six hits and was credited with the win.

Patterson Mill's Austin Abild went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs.

Bel Air defeated

The Bel Air Bobcats (2-4 overall, 2-4 Chesapeake) suffered their second loss in as many days on Wednesday, suffering a 7-6 extra-inning defeat at the hands of host Rising Sun.

Rising Sun scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth.


Brandon Clifford and J.D. Bruck each ripped a double for the Bobcats.

Edgewood crunches Joppatowne

The Edgewood Rams (2-5 overall, 2-4 Susquehanna) took their second victory of the season on Wednesday with a 22-9 drubbing of host Joppatowne (0-4 overall, 0-4 Susquehanna).

Edgewood's Kaliel Barmer, Tyler Hofmann and Dennis Stepp all ripped doubles for the Rams.

Fallston dropped by Bo Manor

The Fallston Cougars were defeated, 9-6, in their Wednesday road matchup with the Bo Manor Eagles.


The loss knocked Fallston down to 3-3 both overall and in Susquehanna Division games.

Aberdeen stopped by Pville

The Aberdeen Eagles surrendered eight runs in the first three innings of their home matchup with Perryville on Wednesday, eventually losing the contest, 8-5.

Aberdeen fell to 2-5 for the season and against Susquehanna opponents.

North Harford tops Bel Air

The North Harford Hawks picked up a big Chesapeake (upper) Division baseball victory at their home field on Tuesday, defeating reigning state 3A champ Bel Air, 7-3.


Josh Garcia led the Hawks at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a three-run homer, three base hits and five RBIs.

The Bobcats out-hit North Harford, 8-7, but the Hawks were ahead of the visitors from the beginning, having scored four runs over the first three innings. North Harford cemented its lead with a three-run rally in the bottom of the fifth, while the Bobcats scored all three of their runs in the top of the sixth.

Playing at Harford Community College on Tuesday, the C. Milton Wright Mustangs rallied from one run down in the bottom of the seventh to take a 6-5 victory over the Harford Tech Cobras.

Trailing, 5-4, heading into their final at-bat, the Mustangs plated the tying run, then ended the game when Tristen Rickard earned a bases-loaded walk that scored Tom Chiascione from third.

Harford Tech (2-4 overall, 2-4 Chesapeake) went up, 1-0, in the top of the first, and the Mustangs answered in the bottom of the second with four runs. In the third, the Cobras plated one more run, then jumped into the lead with three runs in the fifth.


CMW's Colin Miller went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while teammate Brett Schatz was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Andrew Schatz scored a team-high two runs in the victory, and Matt Henigan went 1-for-4 with one RBI. Chase DeMars posted three hits and scored one run for the Mustangs, while Dakota Stern earned two walks and had one run.

Tyler Mister led the Cobras' lineup, going 2-for-4 with a triple, the game's lone extra-base hit, and one RBI. Jeremy Brown was 1-for-2 with two walks and one RBI in the loss, while Jaye Newby was 1-for-2 with a sacrifice bunt. A.J. Borg was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

CMW starter Mike Nolte went five innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits, striking out four and walking four. Jeff Niedzwiecki tossed 1-2/3 innings of scoreless relief for the Mustangs.

Harford Tech hurler Justin Smith took the loss in a complete-game effort.
