A fire in an Aberdeen storage building caused an estimated $20,000 worth of damage Monday, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
About 30 firefighters from the Aberdeen Fire Department, Aberdeen Proving Ground Fire Department and Susquehanna Hose Company of Havre de Grace responded about 1:30 p.m. to the one-story concrete garage in the first block of South Law Street, according to a notice of investigation issued Tuesday.
It took them about 20 minutes to get the fire under control, according to the report. No one was injured.
Curtis and Kimberly Coon own the building, according to the report. Oliver Alkire, senior deputy state fire marshal and spokesperson for the Fire Marshal's Office, said the owners had converted the structure into a five-bay storage facility.
Three of the units were rented out to other people, and the Coons reserved the other two for themselves, Alkire said.
"They all sustained extensive damage," Alkire said of the five units.
The fire caused $5,000 in damage to the building and $15,000 in damage to the contents, according to the report, which also states that a man who rents one of the units was welding outside when he saw the interior fire and reported it.
