An Aberdeen police officer has taken in a kitten that was rescued after being thrown out of a vehicle last week, the city's police department reported Monday.

Aberdeen Police responded to a call for an injured animal Wednesday after construction workers saw someone throw the kitten near Beards Hill Road, Sgt. Will Reiber said in a news release Monday.

The workers rescued the male kitten from the road and APD Officer Kyle Hoffman responded to the incident, Reiber wrote.

APD Cpl. Craig Gentile, who is "known for many acts of kindness towards animals," decided to take the kitten home and give him "a new lease on life," according to the police department.

The kitten, whom Gentile named Bear, was about eight weeks old, weighed about 1.4 pounds, had fleas and had a mildly sprained leg, according to the news release.

Gentile gave Bear a flea dip, started his first round of shots and reported that the kitten's leg has recovered and he is "now living comfortably in the Gentile household, fitting in nicely with his other family pets," according to the release.
