Two siblings were shot, one fatally, early Tuesday morning in Aberdeen, the city's police department reported, saying the shooting resulted from a domestic argument.
The incident ended with a woman being shot and wounded and a man taking his life, according to investigators.
Linda Ota, 56, of Hackensack, N.J., and Thomas Peterson, 55, of Aberdeen, were suffering from gunshot wounds to the head when police found them at about 4:50 a.m. in the 300 block of Mount Royal Avenue, according to an Aberdeen Police Department news release, that identified the two as brother and sister.
Ota was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore and Peterson to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, both in critical condition, police said.
Peterson was pronounced deceased at the Bayview Medical Center at about 7 a.m., police said.
Bruce Goldfarb, spokesperson for the state's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, said Wednesday that Mr. Peterson died of "a contact gunshot wound to the head." His death has been ruled a suicide.
Ota was in still critical condition Wednesday afternoon, Cpl. Shannon Persuhn of the Aberdeen Police Department said.
Persuhn said the incident remains under investigation, but investigators "have determined that the siblings were involved in a domestic related argument that led up to the shooting."
