An Aberdeen man died after a crash at Routes 136 and 543 in Creswell on Saturday evening, Maryland State Police said.

William Craig Weaver, 40, was killed after he lost control of his 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier while driving south on Route 543 and crashed into a 2010 Volkswagen Passat with four people inside, according to a State Police news release.

Aviation was not available for the crash, which happened at about 9:20 p.m., during rain and thunderstorms, according to the Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS Association.

Weaver failed to negotiate a curve on the wet road, lost control and drove off the road, according to the police statement. After trying to over-correct the steering, Weaver's car spun and crossed into oncoming traffic, State Police said.

Weaver was seriously injured and taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, where he was pronounced dead later Saturday, according to the news release.

Pamela Koenig, 55, of Bel Air, was driving the Volkswagen traveling north. She and three other occupants – Amanda Koenig, 19, of Bel Air; Katelyn Tresnak, 19, of Colora; and Kandise Alley, 19, of Conowingo – were all taken to Upper Chesapeake for various injuries, according to the news release.

Weaver appeared to be driving too fast, but was not apparently under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to State Police.

"Driver error was the primary cause of this collision," the news release states.
