Two taken to trauma centers after Tuesday crash on Bel Air's Route 543

Two people were taken to regional trauma centers Tuesday afternoon after a crash on Route 543 near Kendall Gate Way that briefly shut down the road, Harford County fire and rescue officials reported.

Two vehicles were involved in the accident, reported at about 3:40 p.m., according to rescue officials.

One person in each vehicle had to be extricated, Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS Association spokesman Rich Gardiner said. The extrication took about 10 minutes for each, he said.

The victims were in serious condition and were taken by ambulance to trauma centers, Gardiner said. He did not have any additional details.

The road was re-opened within an hour, Cpl Dudek of Maryland State Police Bel Air Barrack said. State Police did not have another details.
