The Harford County Chamber of Commerce announced that Heather Murphy, formerly the Director of Membership, will now act as Vice President of the organization.
Since joining the Chamber team four years ago, Murphy has worked alongside businesses of all industries and sizes, helping them to grow and thrive in Harford County. She has worked to fully implement a new tiered membership system, bringing even more value to Chamber members. Looking to the future, Murphy will add leading the Venture Access initiative, which will optimize the success of our thriving entrepreneurial community in Northeastern Maryland through access to innovative programs and proven resources, to her responsibilities while continuing to support the membership in their business goals.
Heather is a graduate of the 2019 Harford Leadership Academy cohort and recipient of The Daily Record’s 2019 VIP (Very Important Professionals) Successful by 40 Award. She was a vital component in executing the Chamber’s 2017-2018 Young Entrepreneurship Academy (YEA), which taught students about entrepreneurship, and how to start and run their very own business. From her work with YEA, she was selected as a recipient of the 2018 Harford County Champion for Children and Youth Award.
In addition, Murphy volunteers for many other organizations and causes through Harford County. She has served as a board member for Harford Community Action Agency since January 2019, volunteers as a Business Lead and Intern Mentor with the Academy of Finance at Edgewood High School, participates as a Business Partner in the Harford County Complete Count Committee for the 2020 U.S. Census effort, and has volunteered as a Virtual Judge in the Diamond Challenge worldwide entrepreneurial pitch competition created by the University of Delaware.
Passionate about entrepreneurship from a young age, Murphy’s passion for entrepreneurship stems from her own experience running a small family business. She worked her first job in the family seafood business for 10 years while furthering her business career pursuits at York College earning a Master’s of Business Administration.
