Society of Italian American Businessmen raises funds for Char Hope Foundation

The Society of Italian American Businessmen broke its fundraising record at its eighth-annual Spring Gala, held recently at the Richlin Ballroom.

SIAB presented the Char Hope Foundation with a $25,000 donation. Char Hope is dedicated to helping adults facing the challenge of substance abuse move towards long-term recovery by providing a supportive family-like community on a social care farm.

“SIAB’s generous gift will enable Char Hope’s outreach program to prosper,” said a foundation spokesperson. “Not only will Char Hope be able to offer this program to more recovery groups, but SIAB’s support brings Char Hope another step closer to building an enclosed arena, allowing programming to occur year-round and providing needed space for large recovery community gatherings.”

The organization returned to an in-person event after a two-year hiatus. Guests were treated to Italian appetizers from six local restaurants, signature cocktails, a formal dinner and dancing to the music of local band, Mood Swings.

“You could feel the energy throughout the evening,” said Joe Papa, president of SIAB. “Our event, which was a record-breaking one, will allow us to support the community even more in 2023. I could not thank our gala committee enough, as well as our dedicated members, sponsors and attendees, for a perfect event.”

The Society of Italian American Businessmen is a fellowship of Italian American businessmen who live, work or worship in Harford County that support other nonprofits in Maryland with similar beliefs. Since its inception, the Society of Italian American Businessmen has given away over $573,000 in grants and donations to community organizations, and scholarships to local students.

“Our organization consists of men of Italian descent who band together to promote their Italian heritage, uphold Italian family traditions and make a positive impact on the local community,” Papa said.
