A heat lamp is suspected of causing a shed in Bel Air to catch fire Sunday afternoon, killing six puppies.
The Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company responded to the fire in the 400 block of Harrington Road in Bel Air at 3 p.m.
According to the Office of the State Fire Marshal, a neighbor discovered the fire in an 8-foot by 8-foot wood-framed shed behind the two-story home. It took 30 firefighters 10 minutes to control the fire.
Six 8-week old puppies inside the shed died in the fire. Investigators discovered the cause of the fire was a heat lamp used to keep the puppies warm, the state fire marshal’s office said.
The fire caused an estimated $5,000 in damages, including $2,500 to the structure and $2,500 to the contents, according to the state fire marshal’s office.
