Two rescued after floodwaters trap people in their cars in Harford County

Much of the region is under thunderstorm and flash flood watches into the evening, and in Harford County emergency crews already have rescued two people from a vehicle trapped in floodwaters in the Whiteford area, a county official said.

County emergency officials also received a call about an elderly couple stranded in floodwaters in the Norrisville area but have not yet located them, according to Cindy Mumby, a county spokeswoman.

She said a number of roads are closed and warned drivers not to attempt to drive through flood water.

“My constant message is turn around, don’t drown,” she said. “Don’t try and make it through even just a relatively low level of water. We had flash flooding here and there is a lot of high water.”
