A Carroll County man is recovering at a Baltimore hospital after a Bel Air man allegedly shot him in self-defense during a struggle between the two at the latter’s home early Friday morning, according to police.
Harford County Sheriff’s deputies found Tyler Reid, 28, of Woodbine, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the upper body after they were called to the 200 block of Foxhall Drive in Bel Air just before 1 a.m. Friday.
Deputies and medics treated Reid on the scene before he was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview for treatment his injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening, police said.
Reid had been involved in a verbal altercation with his girlfriend, who also lives in the 200 block of Foxhall Drive with the alleged shooter, Jordan Ellison, 27. Ellison became involved in the verbal altercation and Reid allegedly physically assaulted him, according to sheriff’s office.
“During the struggle Ellison, fearing for his life, armed himself with a rifle, fired one round that struck Reid in the upper body,” according to a news release from the Harford sheriff’s office.
Police have not charged Ellison, but second-degree assault charges have been field against Reid, and will be pursued upon his release from the hospital, police said. A court summons for those charges was issued Friday, according to online court records.
Detectives from the Harford County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division are continuing to investigate. Police are not releasing additional details as of 4 p.m. Friday.
