One person dies after fiery crash on Route 1 in Harford County, police say

One person has died after a single-vehicle crash on Route 1 in Darlington early Monday morning, according to Maryland State Police.

Troopers are continuing the investigate the crash, which occurred shortly after 2:40 a.m. Monday in the 4000 block of Conowingo Road, police said.

A silver Ford F-150 was traveling north on Route 1 when it ran off the right side of the roadway, traveled down an embankment, rotated, struck a tree, overturned then caught fire, police said.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene and put out the fire and removed the driver, who was declared dead at the scene. The driver, a male, was the lone occupant of the vehicle. Police have yet to positively identify the driver; his body was transported to the Office of the State Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.
