Concord Point Lighthouse in Havre de Grace to reopen to public Aug. 7

The Concord Point Lighthouse in Havre de Grace will reopen to the public on Saturday, Aug. 7, just in time to celebrate National Lighthouse Day that weekend.

The lighthouse tower and the Keeper’s House Museum and Gift Shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 7 and 1 to 5 p.m. on Aug. 8.

It will continue to be open every weekend through the end of October, according to an announcement from the Friends of Concord Point Lighthouse, a nonprofit that preserves and manages the tower and the Keeper’s House. Regular hours at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays.

“We are excited to welcome visitors back to our cherished lighthouse, after the closure that we felt was necessary during the pandemic,” said Joan Painter, the president of the Board of the Friends of Concord Point Lighthouse, said in a statement.

The National Lighthouse Day celebration on Aug. 7 will include the following activities, all held in the Keeper’s House backyard:

• Storytime by the Harford County Public Library, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

• Mermaid Princess Meet & Greet, noon to 2 p.m.

• Free ice-cream and historical games for children, 1:45 to 3:45 p.m.

The Lighthouse tower will be open for climbing both days, weather permitting. It is located at the corner of Concord and Lafayette streets in Havre de Grace.

Elite Power Washing offered its services to clean up the Concord Point Lighthouse for free in July, in preparation for the lighthouse's reopening Aug. 7.

In preparation for the reopening, the lighthouse tower was washed from top to bottom in July by Havre de Grace-based Elite Power Washing as an in-kind donation from owners Shaun Hampton Jr. and Tina Hampton.

“We love the Concord Point Lighthouse and the surrounding park and promenade,” Tina Hampton. “It was a joy to make its beauty and grace sparkle through the power washing.”

The Friends of Concord Point Lighthouse will also sponsor the Susquehanna Wine and Seafood Festival on Sept. 25 and 26 on the lighthouse grounds.

The family-friendly event will feature music, seafood, a children’s play area, food trucks, beer, wine and signature cocktails. Tickets will be available at the Keeper’s House, the Havre de Grace Visitors Center, and online through the event organizer, B Scene Events & Promotions. Visit for more information.

Both the Lighthouse lawn and the Keeper’s House yard are available year round for weddings and other event reservations. More information is available at
