Aberdeen Proving Ground to conduct controlled burns on Tuesday

The U.S. Army Aberdeen Test Center and the Aberdeen Proving Ground Directorate of Operations have scheduled controlled burns on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for management of downrange areas on the installation, weather permitting.

Efforts will be made to minimize the smoke from impacting on-post and off-post residential communities, according to a statement from the installation. The controlled burning is coordinated with the APG Fire Department and is the safest and most cost-effective way to maintain APG ranges due to unexploded ordnance concerns, the statement said.

All controlled burns are implemented in accordance with APG’s Installation Wildland Fire Management Plan, which addresses potential wildland fire risks and sustains the mission landscape for testing and training activities, the statement said.

Those who live in the surrounding communities and have concerns or questions are encouraged to contact the installation at 410-278-4500.
