Occupant of mobile home, firefighter injured in Joppa blaze

Officials of the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company say an occupant of a mobile home and a firefighter were injured in an early morning fire in Joppa on Friday.

Around 1 a.m., members of the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company responded to the 1000 block of Pulaski Highway, Joppa, for a call regarding smoke in the area., and found a 40-foot mobile home on fire.

As crews were fighting the fire, one occupant was found inside the home and was brought out by firefighters. The occupant was taken by paramedics to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air and was in critical condition, officials said.

A Joppa-Magnolia firefighter was also taken to Upper Chesapeake with a minor hand injury.

The State Fire Marshal is investigating the blaze. Fire companies from Abingdon, Kingsville, White Marsh and Aberdeen Proving Ground assisted at the scene.
