Body of Texas woman found in Ocean City beach hole

Ocean City police are investigating after the body of a Texas woman was found by beachgoers in a hole in the sand on a busy section of the resort’s waterfront early Monday.

Ocean City spokeswoman Jessica Waters said the woman's body was discovered in a hole in the sand by beachgoers Monday morning.

Police identified the victim as Ashley O’Connor, 30, of Plano, Texas.

Waters says O'Connor got separated from her family around 2 a.m. and that her death appears to be accidental, although they have not yet ruled out anything.

The body — discovered on the beach near 2nd Street at about 6:30 a.m. Monday — was removed from the sand at about 4:15 p.m. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine a cause and manner of death.

The investigation is ongoing.
