As a high school coach, if one of my players makes a mistake either in school or with their extracurricular activities, there are consequences for their actions. And they know it. In most cases, the consequences are enough to deter the behavior, but sometimes human nature takes over and mistakes are made. In a similar way, these student-athletes are role models too. They are role models to their peers, to the underclassmen that look up to them, and to the young players who come to their games and watch their every move. The ball boys at our game last week were told by their coaches to pick a player that plays their position and watch their every move.
