Local Roundup: Liberty girls eke out cross country tri-meet win over SC, FSK

Liberty and South Carroll's girls teams battled it out in a cross country tri-meet Wednesday in Winfield, and the Lions squeaked out a team victory.

SC's Sydney Ruckel won the race in 21 minutes, 23.5 seconds, but the Lions put five runners in the top 10 to total 31 points, beating the Cavaliers by two.


Lilly Rainey was second for Liberty, followed by Jenna Zietowski (fifth), Grace Hartfield-Carr (sixth), Keelyn Gallagher (eighth), and Greta Huber (10th).

SC countered with Ruckel, Sydney Ashley (third), and Melanie Morris (fourth).


Francis Scott Key was third with 66 points, led by Lakota Comeau's seventh-place finish.

On the boys side, Nick Tilson won in 16:59.6 and Liberty posted a 1-2-3-5 finish to win the team title with 18 points. SC was second with 41 points and FSK placed third with 73.

Daniel Saxon came in second and John Lemaster was third for the Lions, with Andrew Miner running fifth.

South Carroll's Chris Scalzi finished fourth and Jason Cavs took sixth; Key's Evan Ruhl was eighth.
