Local Roundup: Mills leads Owls boys soccer past River Hill

(HANDOUT)

In a match-up pitting a pair of boys squads that were shut out on opening night, Westminster outlasted host River Hill on Saturday to take some positive vibes away from the Hawks' season-opening tournament.

Ryan Mills provided the game's lone goal midway through the first half and that proved to be enough for goalie Joey Conklin and the Owls' defense, which held strong the rest of the way for a 1-0 victory.

Mills' goal came after a foul occurred just outside the top of the box and he proceeded to curl a free kick off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net. Both teams had chances during the run of play on the afternoon, but neither converted outside that early opportunity. Westminster improves to 1-1 after a loss against Liberty on Friday.
