The regional softball playoffs are slated to begin Thursday, and two county teams have first-round byes.

Liberty received one in Class 2A West Section 2. The Lions will get the winner of No. 5 Century and No. 4 Francis Scott Key in the next round.

The other bye went to Westminster in 3A West Section 1. The Owls will face either Oakdale or Urbana next Monday.

In other 2A West Section 2 action, second-seeded South Carroll hosts Oakland Mills while No. 6 Winters Mill visits No. 3 Marriotts Ridge. The winners meet in the sectional semifinals.

In 1A West Section 2, county champion Manchester Valley hosts Brunswick with the winner visiting No. 2 seed Brunswick next Monday.

No. 5 North Carroll is at No. 4 Smithsburg on Thursday, and the winner gets top-seeded Clear Spring in the next round.
