Local Roundup: Early's slam powers Gerstell baseball to no-hitter victory

Reece Early had a monster day for the Gerstell Academy baseball team in a 9-1 win over Sts. Peter and Paul on Thursday in Finksburg.

Early teamed with Matthew Nowakowski for a combined no-hitter, striking out 11 in six innings of work. At the plate, he went 2-for-4 with a double, a grand slam, and six RBIs.

Haverford 14, McDaniel 5

Recap: At Haverford, Pa., the Fords scored five runs in the fifth inning to break open a close game in the first game of the Centennial Conference tournament.

Eric Grantland went 4-for-4 to lead the third-seeded Green Terror (30-9), who fall to the loser's bracket of the double-elimination tournament. McDaniel will play fourth-seeded Gettysburg in the first elimination game at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Johns Hopkins.

The Green Terror jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Sean Sivo drew a walk to lead off the game before moving to second on a throwing error on a failed pickoff attempt. He then took third on a flyout and scored on a Cameron Bahr single up the middle.

Nick Valori and Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) added two hits each. McDaniel trailed 3-2 before Haverford widened its lead for good.
