Carroll Varsity Roundup: Winters Mill softball tops MV, climbs into county title chase

Lauren Wiley had five hits and Maddie Fawley collected five RBIs as Winters Mill's softball team defeated Manchester Valley 12-5 in county play Saturday morning in Manchester.

Fawley had a double and a triple for the Falcons, who won their fourth in a row and are in the county championship picture. Winters Mill (10-4, 8-3 in the county) is tied with South Carroll for first place in the county standings and plays Man Valley (10-4, 7-3) next Friday. The Cavaliers, who edged Century on Saturday morning, have Francis Scott Key on Wednesday. They split their two games with Winters Mill earlier in the season.


The Falcons-Mavericks game was suspended in the fourth inning earlier in the week and resumed Saturday morning. Man Valley had five doubles in the game.

Man Valley boys win Falcon Relays

Recap: At Westminster on Friday, the Mavericks totaled 110 points and the host Falcons were second with 85. Man Valley won the 4x100 and 4x200 relays, along with the sprint medley relay and 4x110 shuttle hurdles relay. MV's Adam Melville won the high jump. Dimeon Wright took the long jump and triple jump for Winters Mill. Man Valley was second to Marriotts Ridge on the girls side (100-86) and WM was third with 52 points. The Mavs won the 4x100, 4x200, and sprint medley relays, and Kelli Garriott won the high jump. WM's Jordin Keyser won the discus and shot put.
