Local Roundup: Four Westminster wrestlers qualify for states

The Westminster wrestling team placed fifth on Saturday at the Class 4A-3A North region tournament, which it hosted.

Oakdale captured the region title.

Westminster had four wrestlers finish in the top four at their weight class, automatically qualifying for states — Ryker Eckenbarger (126), Riley Eckenbarger (145), Garrett Vandervalk (160), and Austin Raines (170).

South Carroll captured the Class 2A-1A West regional title for the second straight season with 162 points, besting out second-place Middletown which finished with 152, on Saturday at Garrett Community College.

Winters Mill finished sixth with 64 points.

The top four that placed in each weight class automatically qualified for next week's state tournament.

South Carroll's Joey Thomas won a region title at 113 pounds.

South Carroll's Cam Werner won a region title at 120, and Winters Mill's Dan Carr placed fourth.

At 126, South Carroll's Tom Boldosser placed second, Manchester Valley's Zach McAleer placed third, and North Carroll's Aaron Nelson placed fourth.

South Carroll's Jake Mackenzie placed second at 132.

Century's Teddy Nava placed third at 138.

At 145, North Carroll's Connor Waskiewicz placed second and Manchester Valley's Logan Garland placed fourth.

South Carroll's Shane Conners won a region title at 152 and Liberty's Evan Bliden placed second.

South Carroll's Jamar Williams won a region title at 160 and Winters Mill's Neal Rinker placed fourth.

Winters Mill's Kyle Fisher won a region title at 170 and Century's Cody Davis placed second.

At 182, South Carroll's Talmadge Eller placed second and Francis Scott Key's Alex Bracy placed third.

At 195, Manchester Valley's Ethan Bare captured a region title and Francis Scott Key's Jon Milstreed placed second.

Century's Sam Rothstein placed third at 220 and Francis Scott Key's David Young placed fourth.

Century's Nick Donoghue placed fourth at 285.

Round: Maryland Christian Schools Tournament Division 2 final

Recap: At Annapolis, Mary Underman tallied 20 points and 16 rebounds and was named tournament MVP for the Patriots (14-5) who captured their first Division 2 state championship since 2004.
