In what has become a tradition, Silver Oak Academy football players met area business leaders at the Taneytown Business Breakfast Friday morning.

When asked if they were excited for their game later that evening at Francis Scott Key, they indicated they were.

It showed.

Matthew Meek hauled in a 77-yard touchdown grab on Silver Oak's first offensive snap in a 38-27 win over FSK on Friday night in a showdown of two West Carroll programs located just a few miles apart.

The explosive Silver Oak (1-2) offense, with speedy skill players galore, proved too difficult for the FSK defense to slow down.

Silver Oak running back Adrian Budd had 199 yards rushing. Silver Oak quarterback Daron Savoy had 89 rushing yards and 113 passing yards.

In the first half, Silver Oak had three plays of 65 yards or more, including Savoy's 65-yard touchdown run in the second quarter that gave Silver Oak an 18-7 lead.

Silver Oak will need ample big plays going forward. The challenging upcoming schedule includes home games against Western Maryland powers Allegany and Fort Hill and a road game at private school behemoth Mount St. Joseph's.

For the second consecutive game, the inexperienced Eagles (0-2) fell behind early but did not show any signs of giving up. Senior lineman and team captain Tommy Mahoney disrupted the Silver Oak offense.

Sophomore Kane Richardson, sophomore Bobby Sylves and senior Kris Barmoy had fumble recoveries for the Eagles in the first half.

FSK junior Bailey Quesenberry had an interception negated by a personal foul for rushing the passer in the third quarter.

Drew O'Melia had three touchdown runs for FSK. O'Melia's third touchdown of the game, a 7-yard run, cut the Silver Oak lead to 24-21 early in the third quarter.

The score left first-year coach Josh Rutter applauding.

However, Silver Oak responded with a touchdown drive capped by an 11-yard touchdown catch by Osman Kalokah.

The Rams sealed it with a 12-yard Budd touchdown run with seven minutes left in the fourth quarter.

On an unusually hot September evening, several players on both teams cramped up, leading to multiple injury delays.

With less than 2 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the game was stopped due to an injury to a Silver Oak player. The player, identified as Budd by a Silver Oak coach, was immobilized on a backboard and placed in a Union Bridge ambulance.

There was a 35-minute delay due to Budd's injury.
