MICHAEL RAINBOW, LIBERTY Rainbow guided the Lions to their second straight county championship and also their first appearance in the state tournament since 2008. Liberty went 16-3, with its only losses coming against North Hagerstown, Westminster, and Rising Sun in the 2A state semifinals. The Lions went 9-1 against county opponents, and then beat Manchester Valley in three sets in the inaugural county title game. Liberty rolled to a Class 2A West Region title by beating Winters Mill and Century each in three sets, then defeating Williamsport 3-1 in the region final. Liberty won its first set against Rising Sun in the state semifinal, but then lost three straight bringing an end to its season. However, it was a season that Rainbow said he was proud of. "It's been a great season. I think that nobody expected us to be at this point," Rainbow said after the loss. "From the beginning of the season, the seniors were just happy to be able to play together and finish out their career at Liberty and I think they have more than accomplished being a respectable program and a team for the past three seasons."
