Carroll Varsity Roundup: Westminster girls advance to Oakland Mills holiday tournament final

Westminster’s girls basketball team advanced to the finals of the Oakland Mills holiday tournament by defeating Western Tech 49-46 on Thursday at Oakland Mills High School in Columbia.

Sophia Diehl scored 16 points for the Owls, who improved to 5-2. Zoe Costley and Grace Vernon netted 10 points apiece. Westminster faces Oakland Mills in the championship game Friday at 5 p.m.


Century 48, Joppatowne 30

Recap: At Fallston, the Knights (2-6) advanced to the finals of the Vernon Brown Memorial Tournament behind 15 points from Jess Diorio and eight from Eva Brandt. Century faces Dulaney on Friday at 3 p.m.

Manchester Valley 39, Marriotts Ridge 37

Recap: At Manchester, the Mavericks (3-5) prevailed in their holiday tournament consolation game. Josey Klingenberg had 18 points, eight steals, and five rebounds for MV, and Amelia Saunders scored 13.

Howard 45, Liberty 33

Recap: At Ellicott City, the Lions (2-5) fell short in the Howard holiday tourney. They face Hammond on Friday at 5 p.m. Box score information wasn’t available.

Recap: At Middletown, Bethany Fowler led the Cavaliers (3-3) with 10 points at the Middletown holiday tournament. SC takes on Walter Johnson on Friday at 5 p.m.

Recap: At Towson, the Eagles dropped their first game of the season (6-1) at the Holly & Hoops tournament. Savannah Brooks and Bailey Mathias had nine points apiece for FSK, and Kennedy Cornick scored six. Key plays Holy Trinity on Friday morning at 11.

South Carroll 52, Catoctin 42

Recap: At Eldersburg, the Cavaliers netted a win at the Liberty Holiday Tournament thanks in part to 10 points apiece from Mason Gavin and Carson Scott. SC plays Mount Hebron on Friday at 2:30 p.m.

City College 75, Century 72

Recap: At Eldersburg, Jared Lamb led with 22 points and Carter Truby scored 19 at the Liberty Holiday Tournament, but the Knights suffered their first loss (5-1). Century plays Marriotts Ridge on Friday at 4:30 p.m.


Oakland Mills 80, Francis Scott Key 44

Recap: At Columbia, the Eagles fell to 1-6 in losing to the Scorpions at the Oakland Mills tourney. Greg Mullinex had a team-high 11 points for Key, which faces Parkville on Friday at 3 p.m.

Dundalk 76, Manchester Valley 63

Recap: At Manchester, the Mavericks (2-6) lost the finals of the home holiday tournament. Dahon Saunders had 20 points for MV, while Jonathan MacGregor scored 15 points and Hunter Olshefski had 13.

Marriotts Ridge 57, Westminster 51

Recap: At Eldersburg, Drue Giles scored 12 points and Joe Wright added 11 for the Owls (3-3) at the Liberty Holiday Tournament. Jacob Busic finished with 10. Westminster takes on Catoctin at 1 p.m.
