Carroll Varsity Roundup: Man Valley wrestling gets first CCAL win by beating Westminster

Manchester Valley posted four pins and a technical fall to take down visiting Westminster 46-21 in Carroll County Athletic League wrestling action Thursday night.

The Mavericks (6-5, 1-0 CCAL) received pins from Heathe Hernandez (120 pounds), Hunter Green (126), Adam Mattson (160), and Connor Livingston (220). Thomas Chenoweth won by tech fall at 152.


The Owls fall to 1-8, 0-2.

Glenelg 69, Century 9

Recap: At Glenelg, Carson Fitzgerald (106) posted a pin and Stephen Hurst (145) a victory for the Knights, who fell to 3-8.

Winters Mill 2-0 at tri-meet

Recap: At Finksburg on Wednesday, the Falcons (6-4) took down host Gerstell 72-6 and handled Silver Oak 78-6. Brady Forte (106) and Russell MacDowell (145) went 2-0, while Cole Reinartz (152) and Alex Lowe (160) went 1-1.

Carroll Christian 49, Highland View Academy 35

Recap: At Westminster, Mikaela Martin had 11 points, seven rebounds, and four assists for the Patriots (10-1). Sydney Wooden scored a team-high 11 points.

Glenelg Country School 45, Winters Mill 32

Recap: At Westminster, Erin Snyder scored nine points for the Falcons (1-3). Tamrya Timmons had six rebounds. Snyder also grabbed six boards.

JV result: WM, 50-22 (WM-Gabbi Mancini 13 points, Emily Kowalski 9).

Boys Basketball

Liberty 81, South Carroll 32

Recap: At Eldersburg, Tristan Kent and Connor Stewart combined for 35 points, and Kent grabbed seven rebounds for the unbeaten Lions (5-0, 2-0 CCAL). Cam Blankenship finished with 11 points and four assists. Dylan Graham paced the Cavaliers (2-3, 1-1) with 12 points.

Highland View Academy 88, Carroll Christian 64

Recap: At Hagerstown, the Patriots fell to 6-6 despite 22 points from Matt Maldonado and 20 from Josiah Albaugh.
