Liam McGrath’s jump shot with 4 seconds left helped Francis Scott Key force overtime against Catoctin on Thursday in boys basketball action, and the Eagles took control from there to win their season opener 79-76 in Uniontown.
Noah Vipond led FSK with 24 points and McGrath scored 14, while Zach Malott totaled 13 points and five assists. Ryan Rill grabbed 13 reounds and netted seven points. Eagles coach Ryan Kimble said via email he was proud his players rose to the occasion — they finished the game with two freshmen on the floor.
Catoctin’s Brian Palmer sank eight 3-pointers and finished with 41 points.

Recap: At Thurmont, Savannah Brooks led the Eagles to a win in their opener with 14 points. Kennedy Cornick and Bailey Mathias had 8 points apiece, and Cornick added seven rebounds. Rachel Wright sealed the win with a late free throw.
