Manchester Valley’s girls basketball team opened its season with a resounding victory, 73-11 over host Owings Mills on Wednesday night.
The reigning county champion Mavericks got 17 points, 15 rebounds, eight steals, and five assists from Mackenzie DeWees. Josey Klingenberg added 14 points, six assists, and five steals, and Ellie Boswell scored 13. Amelia Saunders added nine points, and Man Valley handed out 25 assists as a team.
JV result: MV, 56-2.
Winters Mill 50, Centennial 28
Recap: At Westminster, Addi Hill had 17 points and Kolby Brown scored 14 for the Falcons in their opener. WM had 15 steals as a team.
JV result: WM, 44-18 (Madison Harmening 12, Lindsey Collins 11).
Williamsport 52, Century 45
Recap: At Williamsport, Kelsey Weishaar led the Knights (0-2) with 12 points and six rebounds. Delaney Tofil added 11 points and sank three 3-pointers, and Emily Kain grabbed four rebounds.
JV result: Century, 34-19 (Kailyn Jones 11 points).
Gerstell 59, Cristo Rey 28
Recap: At Baltimore, the Falcons (3-3) led 23-2 after the first quarter and cruised. Kymiah Carpenter had 15 points (three 3-pointers) and Gerstell totaled 23 steals.
Owings Mills 58, Man Valley 57
Recap: At Manchester, the Mavericks led by one point in the final seconds before Owings Mills scored to pull out a win. Bo Schene scored 33 points for Man Valley and Brett DeWees netted 13.
JV result: MV, 56-55.
Freshman result: MV 44, SC 30.
Century 0-2 in tri-meet
Recap: At Frederick, the Knights started the season 0-2 in falling to host Tuscarora 48-25 and Catoctin 46-30. Nick Dahl (160), Dylan Fitzgerald (138/145), Brendan Cline (138/145), and Lorenzo Lira (106) each went 2-0 in the meet.
