Carroll Varsity Roundup: Welsh leads Liberty boys soccer past Oakdale

Justin Welsh had a goal and an assist, and Liberty’s boys soccer team took down Oakdale 2-0 to win a Class 2A West Section 1 semifinal Tuesday in Ijamsville.

Quinn McLaughlin added a goal and Nick Duvall notched an assist for the Lions, who improved to 10-6 and knocked out the top seed in the section. The victory advances Liberty to the sectional final Friday night at Century.

The Lions beat the Knights 1-0 on Oct. 17 to capture the county championship.

Round: 1A West Section 2 semifinal

Recap: At Smithsburg, the Eagles’ season ended at 4-10 as the Leopards snapped FSK’s two-game win streak. Key’s Haley Sawyer and Emily Dell had six saves apiece in goal.

Gerstell 2, Mercersburg Academy 0

Recap: At Finksburg, the Falcons got goals from Rachel Manning and Abby Best. Noel Talbot made five saves.
