Winters Mill needed a win Tuesday to stay in contention for the Carroll County Athletic League volleyball championship, and the Falcons got it with a 3-1 victory over Century in Eldersburg.

Brynn Choplin had 15 kills and Megan Ruff added 11 in WM’s 21-25, 25-18, 25-13, 25-23 win.


Ruff added 10 digs and Jordan Badorrek had 27 assists for Winters Mill, which improved to 11-2, 10-1 in the county.

The Falcons host Francis Scott Key on Thursday in their CCAL finale. WM is tied with Westminster (10-1 county) for first in the county standings, and the rivals split their matches during the season.

The Owls face South Carroll on Thursday.

Carol Mastria had 15 kills, 11 digs, and three blocks for the Knights (9-4, 7-4) while Ally Everton posted 20 digs. Eva Brandt had five kills, four blocks, and three aces.

JV result: Century, 2-0.

Manchester Valley 3, South Carroll 0

Recap: At Manchester, the Mavericks (3-11, 2-10 county) snapped a six-match skid by sweeping SC 25-15, 25-14, 25-18. Josey Klingenberg totaled 21 assists and Callie Houck had eight kills. The Cavs (0-13, 0-11) got eight digs from Hailey Kirkendall and seven from Kaylee Oden.

JV result: MV, 2-1.

Liberty 3, Francis Scott Key 0

Recap: At Eldersburg, the Lions improved to 8-5 (6-5 county) with the sweep. Karla Stonesifer had eight kills and five blocks for the Eagles (4-9, 4-7), and Savannah Brooks added seven digs and five kills.

JV result: FSK, 2-0 (first win of season).
