The boys and girls soccer regional playoffs begin this week, and there’s a inter-county matchup on tap to kick things off in boys soccer.
Winters Mill (8-6) hosts Liberty (5-6-2) in a Class 2A West Region Section 1 quarterfinal Friday night at 6.
The Falcons clipped the Lions 3-2 in double overtime when the county rivals met Sept. 20 in Westminster.
Century (9-3) and South Carroll (9-5) each received byes in 2A West, and the Knights will host the Cavaliers in the Section 1 semifinal Oct. 30.
Francis Scott Key (3-7-1) hosts Smithsburg in a 1A West Section 2 quarterfinal on Friday at 6:30.
In 3A West Section 1, county champion Manchester Valley (10-2) has a bye and will host a semifinal Oct. 30. Westminster (9-5) hosts Blake on Friday at 6:30 in a sectional quarterfinal.
There’s a Liberty-WM girls soccer playoff tilt coming up as well, a 2A West Section 1 quarterfinal set for Thursday night at 6.
The Lions (8-5-1) defeated the county champion Falcons (4-4-3) when they faced off Sept. 20 in Eldersburg.
Another rematch has Century (7-6-1) hosting South Carroll (7-4-1) on Oct. 30 in the 2A West Section 1 semifinals.
FSK (2-9) travels to Brunswick on Friday in a 1A West Section 2 quarterfinal.
Westminster (8-3-1) has a bye in 3A West Section 1, while Man Valley (4-10) hosts Blake on Friday in a quarterfinal.

Recap: At Eldersburg, Kasey Lamb netted the game’s lone goal, with an assist from Ashleigh Brown, and the Lions improved to 3-2-1 in county play. The Mavs are 3-3 in the Carroll County Athletic League.
Volleyball
Westminster 3, Hereford 0
Recap: At Westminster, the Owls (12-1) rolled on Senior Night 25-16, 25-17, 25-11. Emily Bartlett had 34 assists, Zoe Costley and Tatum Keck had nine kills apiece, and Laken Neff and Shelby Cheuvront combined for seven aces.
