Carroll Varsity Roundup: Carroll Christian advances to MACSAC final

A convincing win Thursday at home has Carroll Christian’s boys soccer team one victory away from another Maryland Association of Christian Schools Athletic Conference championship.

Two goals and three assists from Ben Reede, and two goals from Matt Brauer, helped the Patriots power past Frederick Christian 8-3 in the MACSAC tournament semifinals in Westminster.


Matt Reynolds and Anthony Mendez added a goal and an assist each.

Carroll Christian improved to 14-4, and heads to the championship game Saturday in Frederick. The Pats will face either Harford Christian or Rosedale Baptist at 1:30 p.m.


Manchester Valley 2, Francis Scott Key 1

Recap: At Manchester, Grant Scibek and Jack Metz each scored goals for the Mavericks (10-2, 6-0 county) and Dan Sanders made two saves. Preston Jones netted a goal for the Eagles (3-7-1, 1-5).

JV result: MV, 8-0.

Winters Mill 12, Catoctin 1

Recap: At Thurmont, Edwin Romero and Josh Kappes had three goals apiece, and Will Wilt racked up three assists for the Falcons (8-6).

South Carroll 4, Tuscarora 2

Recap: At Winfield, Nick Simoncini had two assists and one goal to lead the Cavaliers (8-5), who won their third in a row.

Girls Soccer

Westminster 7, Aberdeen 0

Recap: At Aberdeen, Hannah Green netted two goals and Chelsie Roth had two assists for the Owls (7-3-1).

Liberty 3, McDonough 1

Recap: At Eldersburg, Kasey Lamb had a goal and two assists for the Lions (6-5-1). Maia Burger and Jordan Townsend added goal.

South Carroll 2, Francis Scott Key 0


Recap: At Winfield on Wednesday, Megan O’Neill and Lexi Winkler had goals for the Cavaliers (7-4-1, 2-3-1 county). Haley Sawyers made eight saves for Key (2-10, 0-6).


Carroll Christian 3, Rosedale Baptist 0

Round: MACSAC semifinal

Recap: At Westminster, the Patriots rolled 25-12, 25-23, 25-18 and moved into the MACSAC finals. Abbey Duncan had 13 assists and Natalie Tracey had 10 assists and eight aces, and Carroll improved to 17-3. The Pats play in the final Saturday at Frederick.

Frederick 3, South Carroll 0

Recap: At Winfield, the Cavaliers (0-12) fell 25-12, 25-11, 25-16 despite 10 digs apiece from Kaylee Oden and Gabby Greaney.

JV result: SC, 2-1.
