Carroll Varsity Roundup: SC's Kraus tabbed as Ravens Coach of the Week

South Carroll football coach Mike Kraus rallies players before the start of their game at Western Regional Park Friday, Sept. 14, 2018.

South Carroll’s Mike Kraus was named the Ravens High School Coach of the Week on Thursday after leading the Cavaliers to a comeback win over Carroll County foe Winters Mill last week.

The Cavaliers started their final drive with 3:13 left in the game. Quarterback Mason Gavin finished it on a 21-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Brett Finzel with 20 seconds left for a 28-26 victory that avenged last year’s loss. It was Gavin’s third touchdown pass of the game.

Under their first-year coach, the Cavaliers have won more games halfway through the regular season than they did all of last season. They’ve beaten two opponents they fell to a year ago.

Each week during the regular season, the Ravens honor one high school football coach, who receives a $2,000 donation to his school’s football program and an award from Ravens coach John Harbaugh.
