Carroll Varsity Roundup: Owls begin county slate with win over MV

Westminster began its defense as reigning Carroll County Athletic League volleyball champions by defeating Manchester Valley in straight sets Tuesday in Manchester.

The Owls (2-0, 1-0 county) won 25-6, 25-10, 25-8.


Westminster’s Laken Neff collected five aces, Jilienne Widener added eight. Widener also had 12 kills, with Zoe Costley and Emily Stauder combining for nine.

The Mavericks slipped to 0-2, 0-1.

JV result: Westminster, 2-0.

Field Hockey

Liberty 4, Mount de Sales 2

Recap: At Catonsville, Kayleigh Ward had two goals and an assist for the Lions (2-0). Grace Fenner made four saves.

North Harford 3, South Carroll 1

Recap: At Pylesville, Shannon Finch scored an unassisted goal for the Cavaliers (1-3).

JV result: SC, 1-0 (Kennedy Thomas goal).

Boys Soccer

C.M. Wright 2, Century 1

Recap: At Bel Air, the Knights (2-1) suffered their first loss despite a second-half goal from Bennett Bodner. Evan Montgomery had the assist, and Brian Wallace made seven saves.

JV result: CMW, 4-1.

Girls Soccer

Centennial 1, Liberty 0

Recap: At Ellicott City, Caitlin Mulholland made seven saves for the Lions (2-2).

JV result: Liberty, 4-0.


Winters Mill 1, Maryvale Prep 1

Recap: At Brooklandville, Kyla Holt scored for the Falcons (0-0-2) off an assist from Erin Snyder, but they settled for another tie. Riley Lockwood made five saves.

JV result: Maryvale Prep, 1-0.

Recap: At Black Rock, Brody Brilhart led the Eagles (0-5) with a 46, but they dropped a pair of decisions in a tri-match with the Patriots and Leopards.
