Carroll Varsity Roundup: FSK football 2-0 for 1st time in 14 years

Francis Scott Key's football team is 2-0 for the first time in 14 years.

The Eagles traveled out of the state for a Week 2 game against Berkeley Springs in West Virginia, and came home with a resounding 51-28 victory.


The last time Key opened a season 2-0 was 2003, when the Eagles were 4-0 to start the year.

Recap: At Westminster, the Falcons improved to 2-0 for the second time in as many seasons behind a 5-yard touchdown pass from Alex Barnes to Casey Rowe in the second quarter. Alex Carr played well on special teams and converted the extra point that was the difference. WM coach Matt Miller said Rowe and Grayson Lehr recorded sacks on defense, and the unit made three goal-line stands.

Recap: At Manchester, the Mavericks (1-1) crafted a shutout to win their home opener. Brandon Yingling plunged in from 2 yards out for a touchdown run for the Mavericks.

Recap: At Bel Air, the Cavaliers fell to 0-2 despite two touchdown passes from Cole Evans to Dylan Wilson. The first TD was a 35-yard catch. Jacob Snell converted one extra point.

Recap: At Walkersville, the Lions (1-0) had a rough time against the reigning Class 2A state champs. No information was reported.

Recap: At New Market, Grace Fipps scored twice for the Cavaliers (1-1) and Julia Weiss added an assist. Corinne Kearney and Rachel Hagler had one save apiece.

Recap: At Winfield, the Cavaliers (2-0) got goals from Henry Ortiz, Chase Kalishek, and Jacob Sabonis. Nico Lindsay had an assist, and Mason Yeo made three saves.

Gerstell 3, Boys' Latin 1

Recap: At Baltimore, Nate Dresin had two goals and an assist for the Falcons, who picked up their first win (1-2). Caleb Frey added a goal and Seth Higgins an assist.


Carroll Christian 3, York Christian 0

Recap: At Westminster, the Patriots (6-0) won 25-4, 25-13, 25-7. Lily Nelson had 13 aces and 12 assists. Emma Paul had 10 kills and five aces, and Camille Echegoyen added seven aces and five kills.

Pallotti 3, FCA Bravehearts 2

Recap: The home-schooled county team (3-1) fell 25-17, 25-20, 17-25, 11-25, 15-13. Emily Johnston handed out 32 assists and Meghan Stevens had 25 digs. Natalie Marsch posted 19 kills.
