Carroll Varsity Roundup (May 10): Gerstell posts convincing win in MIAA baseball playoff opener

Chris Hagan belted a grand slam and Reece Early tossed 4 2/3 innings in leading Gerstell past Mount Carmel 11-1 on Friday afternoon in Maryland Independent Athletic Association B Conference playoffs.

The Falcons scored six runs in the fourth inning and improved to 12-6, advancing to play Glenelg Country School on May 13 in the next round.

Round: 3A West Section 1 semifinal

Recap: At Westminster, the Owls (14-0) rocked the Rams and moved onto the sectional final. They'll host it May 13 against county foe Manchester Valley. Bubba Love led the way with seven goals and Austin Sipes netted five. Sipes and Justin Hulse had four assists each.

Francis Scott Key advances in 1A West playoffs

Recap: The Eagles’ game Friday against Randallstown was canceled, and Key gets a forfeit victory in the Section 1 quarterfinals. FSK gets the winner of Western Tech and Pikesville on May 13.

Round: 3A West Section 1 semifinal

Recap: At At Silver Spring, Chloe Sedlar netted six goals and Lindsey Elyar scored four for the Owls (10-6), who won their fourth in a row. Anna Ruby handed out three assists for Westminster, which hosts Manchester Valley on May 13.

Manchester Valley 23, Rockville 2

Round: 3A West Section 1 semifinal

Recap: At Rockville, Maddie Callahan had six goals and Kenzie D’Anthony collected five assists for the Mavericks (10-6). Maggie Azzam added five goals and Josey Shaffer had three. The Mavs visit Westminster on May 13.

Francis Scott Key 18, Western Tech 1

Round: 1A West Section 1 semifinal

Recap: At Uniontown, the Eagles (7-6) had no trouble in walloping the Wolverines. Key advances to play at Pikesville on May 13 in the sectional final. Box score information wasn’t reported.
