Carroll's baseball and softball teams begin postseason play Thursday, but many of the county's squads will have the luxury of a first-round bye.
In baseball, county champion Century (15-3) is already into the Class 2A West Section 1 semifinals. The Knights wait for the winner of the Liberty-Oakdale game Thursday. The Lions are 7-10 but hung with Century twice during the regular season, losing 3-1 on April 11 and 9-5 on May 1.
South Carroll (7-7) visits Winters Mill (9-7) in a 2A West Section 1 semifinal Saturday at 1 p.m. The Falcons beat the Cavaliers twice this spring. Both received byes in the opening round.
Francis Scott Key (3-14) travels to Catoctin on Thursday in a 1A West Section 2 quarterfinal.
Westminster (10-6) has a bye in the 3A West Section and will face the Blake-Manchester Valley winner Saturday. The Mavericks (7-9) lost twice to the Owls this season.
In softball, Century (12-5) and South Carroll (11-6) each have byes in 2A West Section 1. The Knights will face the Liberty-Winters Mill sectional quarterfinal Thursday. The Lions (8-11) and Falcons (7-10) split their regular-season series.
The Cavs host Oakdale on Monday in the sectional semifinals.
FSK (5-9) travels to Boonsboro on Thursday for a 1A West Section 2 quarterfinal.
